DiffCI

Cross-agent setup

Install DiffCI wherever your coding agent works.

Use a local plugin or MCP server when an agent needs the current checkout. Use the hosted endpoint for read-only guidance in cloud clients.

Installations use public DiffCI/core and require no DiffCI account or API key. DiffCI Cloud's product source remains private.

Choose your client

Local integrations start the public, pinned npm package in your workspace. They can inspect that checkout when the client permits it. The hosted endpoint never receives filesystem access.

Codex

Add the Core marketplace

Install DiffCI's local MCP server and verification skill from the public Core repository.

codex plugin marketplace add DiffCI/core
codex plugin add diffci@diffci-local

Direct installation works from Core; directory discovery is a separate channel.

Claude Code

Install the public marketplace plugin

Add the same local MCP server and verification skill to Claude Code.

claude plugin marketplace add DiffCI/core
claude plugin install diffci@diffci-marketplace

The public Core marketplace is enough for direct installation.

Cursor

Add the local MCP server

Copy the public MCP definition into .cursor/mcp.json or Cursor's global MCP settings.

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "diffci": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["--yes", "--package", "@diffci.com/diffci@0.3.12", "diffci-mcp"],
      "cwd": "/path/to/repository"
    }
  }
}

On Windows, use the Core Windows-safe launcher. The Cursor listing is a separate discovery channel.

Grok

Choose a local or cloud connection

Use the local MCP server for workspace access and test selection.

grok mcp add diffci -- npx --yes --package @diffci.com/diffci@0.3.12 diffci-mcp

Grok Build can also use the Claude Code marketplace above. For a cloud Connector, add https://diffci.com/mcp/v1; it is read-only and cannot access a checkout or run tests.

Meta Muse Code

Install and approve the native plugin

Muse uses its native package so the local server can start in the session workspace.

muse plugins marketplace add diffci DiffCI/core
muse plugins install diffci@diffci
muse plugins inspect diffci
muse plugins approve diffci

Start a new Muse session after approval. Node.js and npx must be available on PATH.

GitHub Actions

Keep the observer separate

Add the public observer Action in a dedicated non-blocking job when you want advisory CI analysis.

- uses: DiffCI/core@98395bfde712131413da4db542cb1abb4a31b480 # action-v0.3.12

The Action observes only: it never skips, cancels, reorders, or replaces required checks. Action guide →

Other MCP-capable clients

Local stdio

Run against the current checkout

Use this in any MCP client that supports a local stdio server.

command: npx
args: ["--yes", "--package", "@diffci.com/diffci@0.3.12", "diffci-mcp"]

Set the process working directory to the repository root when your client supports it.

Hosted Streamable HTTP

Use read-only guidance anywhere

Configure this URL for cloud clients, discovery, validation plans, and report interpretation.

https://diffci.com/mcp/v1

The hosted endpoint is stateless and does not access a local checkout or execute repository tests. It is also listed in the official MCP Registry.

Choose local versus hosted deliberately

  • Choose local when an agent needs to inspect a Git checkout, understand changed files, or run an explicitly selected validation command.
  • Choose hosted when a cloud client only needs a validation plan, report interpretation, or workflow-text guidance.
  • Keep required CI authoritative. DiffCI never skips, cancels, reorders, or replaces required CI checks.

For the complete, versioned setup reference, see the public DiffCI Core installation guide. For hosted tools and protocol details, see the MCP server guide.
